In order to make the umbrellas weather-proof and long-lasting, Tharaku bamboo, prepared by sinking in mud for one year, is used for production. If desired, with larger umbrellas more high-priced teak wood is being used.

Similarly, the umbrella coating is made from weather- and waterproof cotton. For this purpose, the fabric is treated with natural oils, waxes and resins (pine oil and the traditional „glue coating“, extracted from seeds of the Tae fruit).
Thus, to a certain degree the umbrella has a “natural scent” which is neither extreme nor even unpleasant and which volatilizes rapidly, compared to industrial essences.
